Ester Hudson Table Lamp November 03rd, 2018 - 01:48:03
The lamp back together, it's just the reverse of that process. The next two is time to remove the finish from the base, and here I'm just scraping it off with the razor blade. I decided not to use strip around this, just because it's such a small piece and it would save me stripper and I wouldn't have to clean up the stripper goop and it came off really easy, with the blade and I did the same thing with the top wood portion and then I sanded it with 150 grit sandpaper and the stain I'm using its general finishes, antique walnut gel stain and just wipe it on and wipe it off.
I don't leave it on any longer than I have to because gel stain, if you leave it on too long, it starts setting up and it gets really hard to to get off so just wipe it on and wipe it right off and the same thing with The top portion after the stain dried overnight I applied some men, wax satin wipe-on, polyurethane and I probably put on maybe two coats for paint. I used rust-ileum painters, touch white paint and primer in one and just put on a whole bunch of light coats.
It's a quite a bit to cover up the original color, but I just took my time and made sure to put light coats on until I couldn't see the old color anymore after everything was dry. It was time to reassemble the lamp and first, the rod goes in through the base and I have to get the cord down through that rod. So I first insert a string through the rod and always remember to put the cord through this hole. First, in the side of the base, if it has one, I always forget to do that, and then you forget, you got to take it all apart again and do the whole thing over once it came out.
The other end. I tied that end to the cord and just pulled it through once the cord is through. Then the middle portion of the lamp goes on and then the top would piece goes on and then there's a little washer and various little bits that go on after that, and they all just drop right on.
